Historia – Parte 1

 

Luego de haber formado parte de varios grupos beat, Osvaldo Favrot (Guitarra y voz) forma en 1968 un trío integrado además por Diego Fraschetti en batería y Daniel Bernareggi en bajo. Recomendado por un amigo del grupo, ese mismo año ingresa a la banda Fernando Bergé en Voz líder y guitarra rítmica. Este grupo se llamó desde ese momento "Onda Corta" y sería la base de la formación de Espíritu en los 70´s.

Después de numerosas presentaciones en vivo el grupo es contratado por la compañía discográfica EMI en la que edita un simple y participa en dos LP (Primer Festival Beat y Emisión Beat 70). La producción en estudio estuvo a cargo de Armando Patrono.

Onda Corta actúa en el Festival Beat de la Canción Internacional de Mar del Plata (En el que Arco Iris gana con Blues de Dana). En 1971 Bergé es reclutado en el ejército y Favrot es contratado por Music Hall Sicamericana para ser guitarrista y cantante del grupo beat "Verano" con el que graba varios temas para el dicho sello. Bergé conoce a Carlos Valentín Goler (baterista) en la Banda de Patricios en la que ambos tocaban el tambor. A fines de 1972, cuando salen del ejército ambos mantienen una reunión con Favrot para rearmar el grupo Onda Corta al cual se integra nuevamente el bajista Bernareggi. Con esa formación comienzan los primeros ensayos cerca de Parque Chacabuco. Bernareggi no puede seguir el ritmo de los ensayos debido a problemas laborales y se retira de la banda.

En uno de los ensayos a principios de 1973 Claudio Martínez (baterista amigo de la banda) comienza a tocar con el grupo pero en el rol de bajista. Todos piensan que es el músico perfecto que la banda necesitaba y a partir de allí convencieron a Claudio para que dejara de ser baterista durante un tiempo y se uniera al proyecto. Luego de varios ensayos Osvaldo propone cambiar el nombre de Onda Corta por el de Espíritu cosa que todos aceptan y con este nombre el grupo toca por primera vez, el 13 de Julio de 1973, en el Teatro del Colegio La Salle junto a Litto Nebbia.

Los temas tocados por el grupo no tenían la estructura de los temas sinfónicos que luego encararían pero ya se notaba una gran dedicación y cuidado en los arreglos instrumentales y vocales. Favrot sumaba su experiencia en arreglos vocales porque había formado parte como cantante en el cuarteto vocal folclórico "Estrellas del Alba".

El grupo recibe una propuesta para grabar en RCA ya que dicha compañía estaba interesada en armar un staff de grupos y solistas de rock. Se realizaron varias grabaciones y ante el atraso en su edición y la exigencia de RCA para que presentaran más temas el grupo se retira de la compañía.

El 28 de Setiembre de 1973 la banda firma contrato con Microfón Argentina SRL, grabando inmediatamente su primer simple con los temas "Soy la Noche" y "Hoy, Siempre Hoy" que es editado a fines de 1973 por el sello Talent y con Jorge Alvarez como productor discográfico (Productor de Sui Generis, La Pesada del Rock, y otros importantes grupos y solistas).- "Soy la Noche" es incluido en el LP. Rock Para Mis amigos Vol. 3 y es muy difundido por radio.

Ese mismo año Espíritu toca en el teatro Astral junto a Raúl Porcheto, el dúo Mesías y el grupo Escarcha. Esta presentación tuvo el siguiente comentario en la revista Pelo: "…fue un recital de ínter relación. Sin celos y con amor. Sin superestrellas iluminadores pero con la luz general de la comunicación. ….Las cosas se dieron bien. Con Espíritu que es un grupo aparentemente debutante y nervioso pero que tenía ensayo y humanidad (aunque esta palabra parezca de otro planeta)……"

A principios de 1974 y dado que el tema "Soy la Noche" había recibido una gran aceptación por el público de rock, y buenos comentarios de los músicos de la época, Espíritu comienza a trabajar en un ambicioso proyecto para su álbum debut. Se trataba de una obra conceptual de 50 minutos de duración cuyo nombre era "Crisálida" en referencia a la etapa intermedia entre larva y mariposa y comparándola con los cambios experimentados por un ser humano.

Los integrantes del grupo se afianzan en el movimiento de rock nacional y son invitados por la producción a participar en la Superproducción "La Biblia", en la que tocarían dos temas.

Para "Libros Sapienciales" se pensó en un arreglo de guitarras acústicas que fuera absolutamente diferente a la versión original de Vox Dei. Se grabaron tres guitarras acústicas con diferentes armonías y luego se grabaron las partes de orquesta respetando la línea de las guitarras acústicas.

En el otro tema, "Moisés 3° parte", Claudio Martínez se hizo cargo del Moog, Favrot del bajo y solos de guitarra y Carlos grabó la batería haciendo luego un doblaje de la misma. La base del tema se hizo de una sola toma (Moog, bajo, batería) y luego se grabaron los solos de guitarra y las voces de Billy Bond, David Lebón y Rinaldo Rafanelli.

En las presentaciones en vivo de "La Biblia" que se hicieron durante 1974 Espíritu realizó el apoyo vocal del tema que grabara Sui Generis. De la revista Pelo: "Se han tratado de lograr los mismos efectos del disco, tratando de acomodarlos a las posibilidades de que se disponen. Tomamos el caso del "Moisés" 1° parte, que en el disco es interpretado por Sui Generis y doblado a 16 voces. En vivo se hará con el dúo, mas el aporte vocal del cuarteto Espíritu".

Durante el verano de 1974 ingresa al grupo, como tecladista, David Lebón quien comenzó a ensayar todos los días para familiarizarse con el manejo del Moog y con los temas que ya estaban compuestos para Crisálida. David deja la banda para formar Polifemo.

After having been part of several beat groups Osvaldo Favrot (Guitar and voice) forms in 1968 a trio integrated by Diego Fraschetti in drums and Daniel Bernareggi in bass. Recommended by a friend of the group, that same year, Fernando Bergé enters to the band in leader Voice and rhythmic guitar. This group was called from that moment "Onda Corta" (Short Wave) and it would be the base of the Espíritu formation in the 70´s.

After live numerous presentations, the group is hired by the company EMI in which publishes a simple one and participates (with other groups) in two LP. The production in studio was in charge of Armando Patrono.

Onda Corta acts in the International Sea Song of Mar del Plata Beat Festival (In wich "Arco Iris" wins with "Blues de Dana"). In 1971 Bergé is recruited in the army and Favrot is hired by Music Hall Sicamericana to be guitarist and singer of the beat group "Verano" (Summer) with which records several songs for this stamp. Bergé knew Carlos (drummer) in the Patricians Band in wich both played drums. At the end of 1972, when they leave the army, They had a meeting with Favrot to rearm the group "Onda Corta" also with Bernareggi. With that line-up the first rehearsals near "Chacabuco Park". Bernareggi couldn´t follow the rhythm of the rehearsals due to labor problems and he retires.

In one of the rehearsals at the beginning of 1973 Claudio Martinez (drummer, friend of the band ) begins to play with the group but in the role of bass player. Everyone think that he is the perfect musician the band needed and they convinced Claudio to stop playing drums during a time in order to go on with the project. After several rehearsals Favrot intends to change the name "Onda Corta" for "Espíritu" thing that all accepted and with this name the group plays, in July 13th 1973, in La Salle School Theater with the singer and composer Litto Nebbia.

The songs played for the group didn't have the structure of the symphonic songs that then they would play but it was already noticed a great dedication and care in the instrumental and vocal arrangements. Favrot added his experience in vocal arrangements because it had been part as singer in the "Estrellas del Alba" folkloric quartet.

The group receives a proposal to record in RCA. This company was interested in getting a staff of groups and rock soloists. They made several recordings and in due of backwardness in their edition and the demand of RCA to present more songs the group retires from the company and in September 28 th 1973 the band sign contract with Microfón Argentina SRL, recording their first simple immediately with the songs "Soy la Noche" and "Hoy, Siempre Hoy". This is published at the end of 1973 by the stamp Talent and with Jorge Alvarez in the production (Producer of Sui Generis, La Pesada del Rock, and other important groups and soloists). - "Soy la Noche" is included in the LP. Rock For My friends Vol. 3 and it is very diffused by radio.

        That same year Espíritu plays in the Astral theater with Raúl Porcheto, the duet Mesias and the group Escarcha. This presentation had the following comment in the magazine Pelo: " …it was a show ínter-relationship. Without jealousies and with love. Without superstars illuminators but with the general light of the communication. … .Things occurred well. With Espíritu that is seemingly a begginer gand nervous group but with rehearsal and humanity (although this word seems of another planet)……"

        At the beginning of 1974 and since the song "Soy la Noche" they had received a great acceptance from the rock public and good comments from musicians of the time. They begin to work in an ambitious project for their debut album. It was a conceptual work of 50 minutes of duration whose name was " Crisálida " in reference to the intermediate stage between larva and butterfly and comparing it with the changes experienced by a human being.

        The members of the group are secured in the national rock movement and they are invited by the production to participate in the The Bible superproduction", in which they would play two songs. Para "Libros Sapienciales" was thought of an arrangement of acoustic guitars that went absolutely different to the original version from Vox Dei. Three acoustic guitars were recorded with different harmonies and the voice of Bergé the choirs of Goler and Favrot were added. Then orchestra's parts were recorded respecting the line of the acoustic guitars.

       

In the other song, "Moises 3° parte", Claudio Martínez is in charge of the Moog, Favrot of bass guitar and guitar solos and Carlos recorded the drums making a dubbing of it. The base of the song was made of a single take (Moog, bass, drum) and then the guitar solo and the voices of Billy Bond David Lebón and Rinaldo Rafanelli were recorded

        In the live presentations of The Bible that were made during 1974 Espíritu make the vocal support of the song Sui Generis recorded. Of the magazine Pelo: "They have been to achieve the same effects of the disk, trying to accommodate them to the possibilities that they prepared. We take the case of " Moisés 1° parte" that is interpreted by Sui Generis in the album and dubbed to 16 voices. Playing Live it will be made with duet, plus the vocal contribution of the Espíritu quartet."

        During the summer of 1974 David Lebón enters to the group, as keyboard player. David began to rehearse every day to familiarize with the handling of the Moog and with the songs that were already compound for Crisálida. David left the band to form Polifemo.
